Bob Dylan’s road manager, Victor Maymudes, revealed all the things he had to deal with while working with the singer – including his smell.
Maymudes penned several books in which he detailed his experience while working with Dylan. He became the singer’s road manager and eventually became close friends. However, their working relationship soon broke their friendship.
Bob Dylan’s Bad Hygiene Explored
Maymudes revealed several things he endured because of the “Blowin’ In The Wind” crooner – from the singer’s issues with anger management to his “smelly” body.
“He’s a very rude, obnoxious guy,” Maymudes said, per The Times. He doesn’t take his clothes off when he goes to sleep and the guy doesn’t clean his teeth. Horrible breath.”
The road manager’s comment about Bob Dylan’s smell resonated with what Joni Mitchell wrote in Brian Hinton’s biography, “Both Sides Now.” The female crooner shocked everyone with the revelation about not wanting to use the microphone Dylan used because he “never brushed his teeth.”
Whenever Mitchell had to use the same microphone, she would always his breath like right in her face.
Dylan never addressed the aforesaid issues about his smell and dental healthcare routine. But it was not the only issue they had to deal with him.
Bob Dylan Has Issues Although He Rarely Speaks
Throughout his active years, Dylan rarely speaks about his personal life. He also does not interact with his fans that often.
According to Maymudes, he was the only person the singer would speak to at times.
In Howard Sounes’ book “Down the Highway: The Life of Bob Dylan,” the road manager recalled how silence between them was always deafening as Dylan often sat in silence.

He also endured Dylan’s rage episodes until he had enough when he insulted the road manager’s family. Maymudes’ son, Jake, said that the café Dylan owned did not perform well.
The manager’s daughter was assigned as the manager at that time.
“My father fought back in defense of Aerie’s unjust treatment, not out of denial of the facts but because of Bob’s sheer abandonment of respect for her,” Jake revealed. “Her removal from management of the café may have been warranted, but how it was done was unforgivable.”
The argument ended the duo’s relationship. Per Maymudes’ son, they probably had the chance to reconcile, but his father ultimately died.
