The new trend these days is bringing back old, forgotten music back to life, and giving it a second chance at making it big.
The first time people witnessed a long-forgotten song go viral and top charts was when the Netflix series “Stranger Things” use Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.”
It was then followed by another Netflix original “Wednesday,” which brought new life to “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps.
Now it’s Linda Ronstadt’s “Long Long Time,” which was featured on HBO’s “The Last Of Us.”
The song was released back in 1970, and performed pretty well even during its release. It spent 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was generally well-received by listeners.
Obviously, people know a good song despite how long it has been released because it is once again making its rounds on social media, making a beeline for the charts.
After being featured in an episode, Variety reported, “Long Long Time” saw a massive increase in streaming numbers-a 4,900% increase in US streams, to be specific.
According to People magazine, the song was featured twice in the recently released episode; when Bill sings and plays the song on the piano and at the end of the episode.

Perhaps the most moving part of it all is how the song’s lyrics reflect the message of the show: “Love will abide, takes things in stride / Sounds like good advice / but there’s no one at my side / And time washes clean / love’s wounds unseen / That’s what someone told me but I don’t know what it means.
“‘Cause I’ve done everything I know to try and make you mine / And I think I’m gonna love you for a long long time.”
Although it is receiving the “Running Up That Hill” treatment, reports note that “Long Long Time” has always been a crowd favorite, and Ronstadt even earned a Grammy nomination under Best Contemporary Female Vocal Performance in 1971 because of it.
“The Last Of Us” co-creator Craig Mazin explained how he came to choose Ronstadt’s 1970 hit for the episode: “I could not find the right song for the life of me,
“I was trying and trying, and then I texted my friend Seth Rudetsky, who is the host of Sirius XM on Broadway and a savant. I told him, ‘Here’s all the things I need,’ and two seconds later: ‘Linda Ronstadt, “Long Long Time.’ I was like, ‘There it is. That’s it!'”
