Shakira and Karol G fans, rejoice!
Two of Colombia’s biggest stars, Shakira and Karol G, have finally answered fans’ prayers by working on a collab song, and it might just be the new break-up anthem of the year.
“TQG” is a breakup song that leaves little to imagination; according to Billboard, the song instantly shot up the charts and its music video garnered over 82 million views in 24 hours on YouTube.
“TQG” is an acronym for “Te Quedó Grande” which translate to “too much for you to handle.”
The lyrics go: “Whoever told you that a void is filled with another person is lying to you/ It’s like covering up a wound with makeup/ You can’t see it, but you can feel it/ You left saying you got over me/ And you got yourself a new girlfriend/ What she doesn’t know is that you’re still looking at all my stories.”
Karol G spoke about what inspired her to write the song in a previous interview, When I started it, it had a personal meaning to me that evolved over time and though it doesn’t represent things now, it was a particular moment in my life.”
She revealed that after listening to Shakira’s “Monotonia,” she thought that the singer and herself could probably understand each other’s pain.
“Listening to that story and where she was at, ‘the song ‘TQG’ made a lot of sense,” Karol explained. “I sent it to her and she loved it.”

Shakira, on the other hand, was more than willing to jump into the song-her verses were directed at her ex, Gerard Pique.
According to reports, she sang, admitting that his infidelity hurt her: “Seeing you with the new one hurt me, but I’m already on my own, what we lived is forgotten and that’s what has offended you.”
In another line, the singer claims that Pique even begged her to come back at one point.
“Now you want to come back, you can tell, (mmm yeah), wait for me there, as if I’m an idiot.”
Towards the end of the song, Shakira reminded both the listener and Pique that she is irreplaceable, “tell your new baby that I don’t compete for men.”
