Over the years, women proved that they can dominate different work fields despite the discrimination they get from other people. This is what exactly Shania Twaid did in country music as she emerged as one of the genre’s best-selling artists for decades.
However, despite pioneering the success of fellow female musicians, the country star believed that they are being underrepresented in the field today.
In a recent interview with Tania Byer of CNBC, Twain recalled how the industry was like when she was starting out decades ago, saying it was primarily more dominated by men; from executives to musicians, all positions were mostly filled by male workers and being “taken seriously as a woman was a challenge.”
The “Man! I Feel Like A Woman” songstress looked back on those days when she would experience sexism with her female manager. In addition, she was also often criticized for being too provocative for country music.
Despite having a hard time dealing with people around her at the time, Twain didn’t give up and managed to dominate the scene as she went along the way, many people embraced the way she expressed herself and even amassed a number of open-minded supporters.
As of this writing, the musician has sold a whopping 85 million copies of albums worldwide.

In the present, it appears that the thinking went backward as the singer believed that the “industry has regressed,” adding that it’s difficult for female artists to “find space” and “to find room.”
One of the main explanations, why she sees the unfairness between the two genders, was because there are fewer women emerging in the country music genre because it’s most often dominated by men.
“So that is definitely not, you know, an even playing ground, nowhere near it,” she added.
Shania Twain admits that she doesn’t know the reason behind it, but she can’t believe why it’s hard for her fellow women to thrive in the music scene.
In other updates, the Grammy Award-winning artist recently opened up about her dream to perform at the Pyramid Stage of Glastonbury Festival.
The singer said it’s “absolutely” on her wish list. However, the festival just dropped its official lineup for this year, featuring Yusaf/Cat Stevens.
As of this writing, Glastonbury has not announced whether they’ll add Twain in the future or not.
